AI Reports: Atrocities in the Middle East
Human Intro: I wanted to test my scrapers and the AI interpretation on them, so I scraped for “Hamas and Israel” and I pulled from a number of sources to get to 446 articles that I fed to GPT-4. I then asked it for an unbiased report and a report sympathetic to Israel and a report sympathetic to Hamas. I did one trial of each. The results are posted below.
Unbiased:
The conflict between Hamas and Israel escalated drastically following a surprise attack by Hamas militants. The attack was reportedly planned at least a year in advance, with support from Iranian allies who provided military training, logistical help, and funding for weapons. The attack bypassed Israel's advanced security systems, leading to a death toll of over 900 Israelis and more than 2,600 wounded. In response, Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, resulting in at least 680 deaths according to Palestinian authorities.
In an effort to regain control, Israel has retaken the Gaza border and begun planting mines where Hamas militants had previously toppled the barrier. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that while Israel did not start the war, it would finish it. The conflict has drawn international attention, with leaders from the US, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK expressing united support for Israel and condemning Hamas' actions.
The situation has had severe impacts on civilians on both sides. For example, in Southern California, families with relatives in Israel have been desperately reaching out to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, drone footage has captured the extent of destruction caused by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City, with many residents left with nowhere to go.
The conflict has also influenced global markets, with investors looking past the conflict while it remains. However, the risks from higher bond yields, a stronger US dollar, and oil prices remain. The conflict has also led to significant criticism and consequences for individuals expressing support for either side, as seen in the case of former adult film star Mia Khalifa who was fired from a podcast deal over her support for Palestine.
In an unprecedented move, Hamas' military faction announced its intention to execute an Israeli civilian captive in retaliation for any future Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian homes without prior warning. This decision was attributed to Israel's escalated airstrikes, which have resulted in the deaths of civilians inside their homes.
Sympathetic to Israel:

UK Foreign Minister James Cleverly criticized Hamas for worsening the situation for people in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a punishing retaliation against Hamas, while also stating that Israel did not start the war but will finish it. Netanyahu's statement came as the death toll in the conflict crossed the 1600 mark. This has been met with support from global leaders, including President Biden and the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK, who issued a joint statement expressing united support for Israel and condemning Hamas' actions.

The UK foreign minister, James Cleverly, criticized Hamas for worsening the situation for ordinary people in Gaza through its attack on Israel. However, it is important to note that the residents of Gaza are left with nowhere to go due to the Israeli retaliation.

The extensive destruction caused by the Israeli airstrikes and the retaliatory measures by Hamas are worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region. It is hoped that a resolution can be found soon to end the suffering of the innocent civilians.
